The Farmer and His Sons

The Farmer and His Sons

A farmer, who realised that he was on his deathbed, called his sons to him.

‘I am about to leave you,’ he murmured,’ but I have something for you. Dig up the vineyard and share everything you find there.’

The son thought that the father had meant a hidden treasure and thus, the moment he died, they began to hoe and dig at a furious pace. They did not find any treasure, for there was none to find, but the earth in the vineyard, hoed and dug so thoroughly, produced that year an enormous quantity of excellent grapes.
